Convened by: Policy Committee of SCB-Europe section
The European Policy Committee of the Society for Conservation Biology has been working for the conservation of the remaining primary and old-growth forests in Europe for many years. Białowieża Forest, on the border between Poland and Belarus, the largest remnant of temperate primary forest in lowland Europe, and the old-growth forests in Šumava, Czech Republic, have served us as case studies since 2003 and 2009, respectively. At this panel, we want to invite the audience to discuss with us: 1) How can we consolidate these as success stories? And 2) What we can learn from these stories for the conservation of old-growth elsewhere in Europe?
